A first-timer's night out in Krakow
Kraków makes going out dangerously easy… The Old Town alone has what local guides describe as hundreds of bars, many hidden in cellars, courtyards and side streets around the Main Square. Add Kazimierz a little further south and you can spend an entire weekend bar-hopping without repeating yourself. For a first night, though, you don't need a spreadsheet. Start central, try some Polish vodka, then let the evening drift towards Kazimierz.
Start on the Rynek — briefly
You should see Rynek Główny at night at least once. It's one of Europe's great medieval market squares and is lined with cafés, restaurants and bars. Have a drink, enjoy the view — and then explore.

Make vodka part of the evening
You don't need to wait until midnight. Kraków has plenty of casual vodka and shot bars where you can try classic clear vodka alongside flavoured styles such as cherry, quince or hazelnut. Some are tiny specialists; others are lively shot bars designed for hopping in, ordering something interesting and moving on.
And if you'd rather understand what you're drinking instead of selecting bottles based entirely on their Polish names, this is a good point in the evening for a Vodka Tasting or Vodka Tour. Then head to Kazimierz
Later on, move towards Kazimierz. The historic district around Plac Nowy, Józefa and the neighbouring streets is one of Kraków's main nightlife hubs, with everything from dark little bars and cocktail spots to craft beer, music and places that seem to become a completely different venue once the sun goes down.
It tends to feel more relaxed and less centred around the big tourist crowds of the Main Square.
You can still find shots if that's where the night is going — Shot Bar BANG BANG stays open into the early hours — or disappear into somewhere moodier like Eszeweria.

One last thing: get the zapiekanka
When you're finally done, there is one Kraków cliché worth embracing. Plac Nowy is famous for zapiekanki: long toasted baguettes traditionally topped with mushrooms and cheese, with considerably more elaborate versions now available from the kiosks in the square's central rotunda. They have become one of the district's best-known late-night foods.
